Search Routt County Court Records Online

The first public access point is the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search. For Routt County court records, select the 14th Judicial District, Routt County, and Routt County Combined Court when those filters fit the search. The docket tool is useful for court dates, docket listings, case numbers, party names, attorney searches, and court type filters. It is not a full document library. The Judicial Branch access materials state that copies of case documents are requested from the court where the document was filed or through the online court-record request process.

Use the docket as a locator first. Then use the Clerk of Court path for copies. Public counter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Protection-order filers may check in with security from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Colorado Judicial Branch public-records access guide also points users to commercial register-of-actions vendors for limited online access. That path can help confirm case activity, but it does not replace the official court file.

Routt County Court Records Search Fields

The docket search requires a date basis plus at least one added filter. A broad name search may return more than one case, so case class and court type help separate civil, criminal, probate, traffic, domestic, juvenile, and water matters. The case class list includes C, CR, CV, CW, DR, JD, JV, M, PR, R, S, and T. Those labels should be read as search filters, not as a promise that every matching document is available online.

The Colorado State Courts Data Access page is a different login portal. It displays username, password, government-account, and internal-court-account controls. Its own page says it contains court data, not case documents, so ordinary public users should not treat it as a free document-search site.

Types of Routt County Court Records

Routt County District Court and County Court produce different records under Colorado's trial-court structure. District Court handles felony criminal cases, civil cases in any amount, domestic relations, juvenile matters, probate, mental health, and water matters. County Court handles misdemeanors, criminal traffic, traffic infractions, felony complaints before transfer, protection orders, small claims, and civil cases under $25,000. Steamboat Springs Municipal Court is separate and handles city traffic and municipal-code matters inside city limits.

Some records that look court related are not court case files. Recorded deeds, plats, mining claims, and marriage records are handled by the Routt County Clerk and Recorder through the GovOS Official Records Search. Booking reports, incident reports, crash reports, and some arrest records route to the Sheriff's Office records process. Court records route to the Clerk of Court, while recorded public documents route to the Routt County Clerk and Recorder.

What Routt County Court Records Show

A Routt County court record can show identifying case data, parties, attorneys, filing dates, hearing events, orders, dispositions, and financial obligations. The public docket and vendor register of actions are event lists. They do not provide every pleading, exhibit, decree, or certified order as a downloadable document. When a filed document is needed for legal, title, employment, immigration, family, or appeal use, the request must go to the court location that holds the file.

The CoCourts register-of-actions portal is identified by Colorado Judicial Branch materials as a paid vendor route for limited court-record data. It can be useful for statewide real-time register-of-actions access, but CoCourts cautions that names are not positive identification and that a criminal index entry may represent an arrest filing that was not prosecuted by the District Attorney.

Routt County Court Records Access Rules

Colorado court records are governed by court public-access rules, Chief Justice Directive 05-01, and the Judicial Branch access process. General county records can fall under the Colorado Open Records Act, C.R.S. 24-72-201 to 24-72-309. Criminal-justice records are governed by the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, C.R.S. 24-72-301 and related sections. A request must start with the right custodian because court files, sheriff records, recorded documents, and administrative records are not held by one office.

Restricted Routt County Court Records

Some Routt County court records are public only in part, or not public through ordinary search tools. Juvenile matters are governed by the Children's Code and Colorado court policy. Adoption files are generally confidential. Mental health proceedings may include medical and treatment information. Sealed cases may not appear in normal search results. Expunged juvenile records are treated as removed from ordinary inspection for many purposes.

Adult criminal sealing and juvenile expungement are case-specific. A filer must identify the original Routt County Combined Court or municipal case, use the correct Judicial Branch form, pay any required fee unless waived, notify the required prosecuting agency when required, and attend a hearing if one is set. Public systems may stop showing a case after sealing or expungement, but courts, law enforcement, prosecutors, or other agencies may still have access where law allows.

Routt County Court Record Requests

In-person and direct requests are still important in Routt County because the public docket is only the start of a case search. Bring the case number if available, plus party names, approximate filing date, court type, and the kind of copy needed. Ask whether the request is for a plain copy, certified copy, disposition, decree, order, or full file inspection. Emailed filings may be accepted from self-represented parties if legible, complete, signed, tied to an existing case number when applicable, and accompanied by required ID, but filing by email is not the same as requesting a court record.
